Google Business Profile optimisation
Most profiles leave money on the table

Foundation

How visibility turns into calls

Your profile is the bridge between search and action. When customers find you on Google Maps, they decide in seconds whether to call, visit, or move on.

Most profiles leave money on the table. Incomplete information, missing photos, and weak descriptions cost you calls every single day. A properly optimized profile captures those moments when customers are ready to act.

The full list of what we manage on your profile

Google Business Profile used to be called Google My Business. The name changed, but the job didn't: it's often the first thing a customer sees. Getting it right is more than filling in fields. Here's everything we take care of.

Setup, verification and ownership

We create and verify new profiles, and recover access to existing ones when a former employee or agency still owns them. We also find and deal with duplicate listings that split your reviews and confuse Google.

Categories and services

Your primary category has a big effect on which searches you show up for. We pick it carefully, add relevant secondary categories, and list each service or product with a clear description.

Business details and attributes

Hours, holiday hours, phone, website, booking links, service areas and attributes like accessibility or online appointments. Small details, but customers and Google both rely on them.

Photos and video

We add and update photos of your work, your team, your premises and your vehicles, with clear, accurate descriptions. Real photos build trust faster than stock images.

Google Posts

We publish posts each month (2 on Local SEO Plus, 3 on Premium) for offers, updates, events and seasonal services. Active profiles give customers a reason to call now.

Review management and responses

We monitor new reviews and reply to them, including the difficult ones. We also set up review links and templates so asking for reviews becomes routine. We never buy reviews or filter out unhappy customers, both of which break Google's rules.

Common profile problems we fix

When we audit a profile, these are the issues we look for first. Most are easy to fix once you know they're there.

  • Missing or wrong opening hours, especially holiday hours
  • Business name, address or phone number that doesn't match your website or directory listings
  • Wrong primary category, or missing secondary categories
  • Services, products or menu items not listed
  • Few photos, old photos, or no photos of your actual work
  • No before-and-after photos for trades and home services
  • No Google Posts, or the last one is months old
  • Reviews left unanswered
  • Booking or appointment link missing or broken
  • No service area set for a business that travels to customers
  • Emergency or after-hours services not mentioned anywhere
  • Outdated details, such as insurance plans you no longer accept or services you've stopped offering
  • Class schedules, price lists or menus missing for businesses that rely on them
  • Duplicate listings, or an unverified profile you don't control
  • Common customer questions left unanswered on the profile and on your website

If a few of these sound familiar, we'll check your profile against the full list for free. Get my free Local SEO audit

How we optimize your profile

  1. Comparing your profile with the businesses above you on the map

    Step 1

    Full profile audit

We review every section of your profile and compare it to the competitors who appear above you on the map. We also run a geo-grid scan to see where you show up across your area.

  2. Checking who owns the profile and that your details are right

    Step 2

    Fix ownership and accuracy

We confirm you own and control the profile, remove duplicates, and correct any wrong details. This comes first because everything else depends on it.

  3. Choosing categories and listing your services

    Step 3

    Categories, services and description

We set your categories, list your services and write a clear business description based on how customers search.

  4. Adding real photos of your work

    Step 4

    Photos and visual content

We add a solid set of real photos and set a plan to keep them fresh.

  5. Asking for and replying to customer reviews

    Step 5

    Reviews system

We set up review links and a simple process for asking customers, then start replying to new and existing reviews.

  6. Monthly posts and updates to your profile

    Step 6

    Posts and ongoing updates

We publish posts each month and update the profile whenever your hours, services or offers change.

  7. Monthly report on how customers find and contact you

    Step 7

    Track and report

Monthly reports show calls, clicks, direction requests and map rankings, and what we'll change next.

Storefront, service-area or both

How your profile is set up depends on where you meet customers. If people come to you, such as a clinic, shop or restaurant, your address is shown and Google ranks you largely by how close you are to the person searching. If you travel to customers, such as a plumber, cleaner or roofer, Google's guidelines say you should hide your address and set a service area instead. Some businesses do both.

Getting this wrong is a common reason a profile gets suspended or never shows up. We check that your setup follows Google's guidelines, that your service area matches where you actually work, and that your website's location pages back it up. If you have more than one location, each gets its own verified profile and its own location page.

Profile setup that fits your industry

What matters on a profile depends on what you do. We set yours up for how your customers decide.
